Seasearch

Seasearch is a project for volunteer scuba divers and snorkellers who have an interest in what they are seeing underwater and want to learn more and help protect the marine environment around our coast. This vital information provides a better understanding of our marine environment and how it is changing over time. This can then be used by decision makers enabling them to make the best decisions for our marine environment.

It is a national project that is co-ordinated by the Marine Conservation Society with the main aim to map the various types of habitats and species in the nearshore waters. The training is fun and contains a mix of illustrated talks, practical sessions and virtual dives on video to practice your newly learned skills. For more information please check the Seasearch webpage www.seasearch.org.uk

MWT have created a priorities list of sites that need to be surveyed to enable us to gain a better understanding of these areas and a priorities list of species (see below) to give some focus to the work that we are already doing. These species and habitats have been identified as important for marine conservation. If you snorkel or dive at these sites or find any of these species please contact Lara Howe, Marine Officer, on the below email.

If you want to get involved with Seasearch on the Isle of Man then please contact Dr Lara Howe, Marine Officer, for more details at [email protected]
